Recipes: Stop-The-Presses Cocktails

  • The Early Edition: mocktail

  • The Late Edition: rum-based

“Now they’re gonna see what ‘stop the presses’ really means…”


The Early Edition Mocktail

  • 1 oz grenadine

  • 1 oz vanilla simple syrup

  • approx 5 to 6 oz Coke

  • topped with 1/2 oz half & half

  • 2-3 cherries to garnish

  1. To make vanilla syrup:

    • Combine 1/2 cup of water and 1/2 cup of granulated sugar in sauce pan and cook on medium-high heat, stirring occasionally.

    • Let it come to a boil and continue to thicken for approximately 8 to 10 minutes.

    • Remove from heat and slowly stir in 1/2 tablespoon of vanilla extract.

    • Let cool before making drinks.

  2. Fill large tumbler with ice.

  3. Add grenadine and vanilla simple syrup to bottom of glass.

  4. Add coke to glass. Gently stir once with long bar spoon.

  5. Top drink with half & half.

  6. Garnish with cherries.


The Late Edition

  • 2 oz white rum

  • 1/2 oz grenadine

  • 1/2 oz vanilla simple syrup

  • approx 4 to 5 oz Coke

  • topped with 1/2 oz half & half

  • 2-3 cherries to garnish
